SUSAN J. OLIVER To me, sculpture is representative of our every day activities. The thought that goes into a piece of art presents the world around us with a story, an anecdote of life. I believe in functional art that is whimsical and fun, and celebrates the lighter side of life. It gives me great pleasure to compose multiple figure sculptures because they show us the relationship between people. Susan Oliver received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts, and her teaching credential from California State University, Sacramento. She was a trained commercial artist and illustrator before developing her individual artistic style in acrylics and in ceramic sculpture. She has studied with such well known artists as Yoshio Taylor, Steve Kaltenbach, Peter Vandenburg, Jerry Walburg and Jim Estes. ’’I continue to study withother artists,’’ she says. ‘’Their opinion helps me stay open and in a growth pattern.’’ Susan’s sculptures are in private collections throughout California and Hawaii. Her awards include the KVIE Jurors’ Award, 1st place at Lodi Art Annual, 1st place at Vacaville Art Annual, 3rd place at Fairfield Art Annual and 1st place at Northern California Membership Show.
